(Hendersonville, NC) - Hendersonville Magazine will publish its 40th anniversary edition this coming Memorial Day weekend. Reaching a milestone in Western North Carolina local media, Hendersonville Magazine has been capturing the spirit of Henderson County since 1982. Covering facts and figures, local history, outdoor recreation, arts and entertainment, attractions and family fun, healthcare, housing, community resources and much more, Hendersonville Magazine has continued to grow parallel to Henderson County’s expansion and withstand the test of time.
With the release of its 40th edition, Hendersonville Magazine looks back at how far the magazine has come since its beginning. Started in 1982 by publisher Grace Hay, the first edition of Hendersonville Magazine was born of necessity. As a newcomer to the area, Hay went searching for local information. To her frustration, the information was not readily available. Knowing that visitors, newcomers, and locals would want the facts and resources she sought, she created Hendersonville Magazine.
The sequence of ownership began in 1987, when Joanie Fischer bought the publication from Hay after working with her for several years. Fischer adhered to Hay’s philosophy of “just the facts in a few kind words” and grew the publication into a local institution. As Fischer transitioned out in 2014, seasoned local media leader Brett Hulsey acquired Hendersonville Magazine and has continued with both the traditions and the growth trajectory of the previous publishers. Today, Hendersonville Magazine serves as a “who’s who” of businesses and organizations in the Hendersonville area, reaching a desirable audience of visitors, newcomers, and local residents through targeted distribution, direct mail, and social media.
